3 Adorable DIY Halloween Costumes

Halloween provides kids and adults with an opportunity to get creative and come up with fun costumes!

With so many costume possibilities, it may seem a bit overwhelming to find one costume that fits your style and your budget.

Although large, super center stores have costume sections with pre-made costumes, they can be slightly more expensive than you want to spend for a one-night use item. Even worse, if you decide to buy your costume from the store, there could be lots of other people with the same costume.

In order to help you stand out this Halloween, here are a few unique DIY costume ideas using every day items that can fit in any budget!

The Scuba Diver

What you will need:

  • Black sweatpants
  • Black long sleeve shirt
  • Black stocking cap
  • Underwater goggles
  • Duct tape
  • Two empty 2-liter bottles
  • Neon spray paint
  • Flippers

After putting on the sweatpants, shirt, stocking cap, and goggles, take out the 2 liter bottles and spray paint. Liberally apply the spray paint on the bottles till opaque and allow time to dry.

Once dry, take the two bottles and duct tape them together so that the sides are touching and both caps are facing upward. Attach the bottles to the back of the costume shirt using the duct tape and then step into the flippers.

The Octopus

What you will need:

  • 8 colorful tube socks & shorts (or 4 pairs of opaque colorful tights)
  • 1 long sleeve t-shirt or onesie
  • 1 stocking cap (same color as socks/tights)
  • Cotton stuffing
  • Safety pins/needle and thread

Take six the tube socks – or three pairs of tights – and fill them with cotton stuffing till they are the same size as the legs of the person dressing up in the costume. Put on the last two tube socks – or pair of tights – and shorts on top of the tights. Then put on the long sleeve shirt.

Attach the six remaining tube socks evenly around the waist seam of the shorts/tights using the safety pins or needle and thread. The last step is to put on the stocking cap! You can continue to adjust the legs and shirt covering as needed to make sure they are placed and covered correctly.

The Biker Baby

What you will need:

  • Baby Harley-Davidson shirt (with sleeves rolled)
  • Baby jeans
  • Handkerchief/do-rag
  • Washable, non-toxic marker OR makeup pencil

This costume is one of the easiest, last-minute costumes to make! Dress your baby up in jeans and a Harley-Davidson biking shirt. Take the handkerchief or do-rag and tie it around the top of the baby’s head. Roll the sleeves of the shirt up to show off the arms. Take the washable, non-toxic marker or makeup pencil and color in a goatee and arm tattoo.
